Application Scope
ASTM A53 and ASME SA53 pipes are designed for mechanical and pressure-based applications, as well as common uses in steam, water, gas, and air pipelines. They are weldable and suitable for forming processes such as coiling, bending, and flanging, subject to certain limitations.
A53 covers both seamless and welded pipes, available in black and hot-dipped galvanized finishes. These pipes are ideal for coiling, bending, and flanging applications and can be welded as needed. However, continuous-welded pipes are not intended for flanging. When placing an order, specifying the intended application is recommended.
Manufacturing & Materials
The steel used in seamless and welded pipes is produced through open-hearth, electric furnace, or basic-oxygen processes. For Grade B electric-resistance welded pipes, the weld seam undergoes heat treatment after welding to ensure durability.
Hydrostatic Testing
All seamless and electric-resistance-welded pipes undergo hydrostatic testing, with pressure maintained for a minimum of five seconds for plain-end and threaded-and-coupled pipes.
